Marina Abramovic Documentary Trailer

Below is a trailer for a new documentary that follows performance artist Marina Abramovic as she prepares for her retrospective that is currently showing at MoMA. I’ve been to MoMA twice in the past week and it’s really made me reflect on my own practice. While I’m probably not going to fast for three days for my art or whip myself in a performance, I was very moved by Abramovic’s honesty and fearlessness. Her retrospective has made me ask myself:  “Am I investing enough in my work?” “How honest am I being in my art-making?” “Am I doing everything I can to make the best work I can make or am I letting fear hold me back” …I think these are all very important questions to ask.

I wish I had been in New York to see her retrospective and the Tino Seghal piece at the Guggenheim. I have to say though, this trailer really feels like it is advertising the new reality TV show: America’s Next Performance Artist.
